Magical preparation of the hand

The following is the first in a series of exercises designed to prepare the hand for passive communication. In this context, “prepare” refers to the disassociation of voluntary intent from the muscular action necessary for the hand to move when prompted by willpower. This process serves to weaken the mind-body connection related to the hand, facilitating the capacity to initiate movement purely through intention without directly engaging the physical vessel.
The matter may appear mysterious, but only if we remain anchored to the unconscious link between mind and body. The deepening of the practice on depth point, as has already been highlighted, offers a more intimate understanding of the phenomenon, and mental work on the separation of Step Sixth’s three bodies (mental, astral and physical) will throw further light on this matter. The purpose of this and the following exercises, which are not for nothing defined as passive, consists of severing the psychosomatic connection that activates the movements of the hand to make it permeable to external factors. Therefore, the will to move the muscles of the hand is no longer carried out by exploiting the link between the mind and the physical energy of the body but through the mind and an external force, severing the kinetic chain that transmits our will to the physical substrate.
The exercise is divided into two parts; in the first part, vital energy is used:
- Sit in front of a table on which you can comfortably rest your hands.
- Concentrate vital energy in the right hand (or left hand for left-handed individuals). This concentration is intended to demonstrate that willpower, in conjunction with vital energy, can elicit hand and finger movement without relying on muscular assistance. This step aims to cultivate the intention to mobilise the hand solely by directing your will onto the vital energy while keeping the hand and fingers still.
- Release life energy into the universe.
In the second part, we work with the accumulation of the Air Element:
- Begin by accumulating the Air Element in the index finger.
- The finger becomes weightless when the accumulation is established, and a subtle fluctuation is perceived. At this stage, concentrate on the fact that willpower alone can move and lift the finger without the involvement of the muscles. The absence of tension while raising the finger indicates the correct execution of the exercise. Furthermore, it is essential to minimise mental strain; one should experience the sensation that the finger is lifted solely by the power of will while the muscles remain entirely relaxed.
- Lower your finger deliberately, causing the Air Element to come out. Repeat this process with the remaining fingers before transitioning to the fingers of the opposite hand.
- Once you have mastered the initial phase, proceed to employ the same technique by sequentially elevating one hand, then the other, first up to the wrist and then to the elbow. The various stages can be carried out in successive steps. It is essential to perform multiple repetitions to gain control of levitation.
Again, Bardon cautions against the exclusive dedication to levitation exercises, highlighting that while such a commitment may yield significant results over numerous years, it substantially impedes the practitioner’s hermetic development. Bardon emphasises that actual development must be rooted in the harmonisation and equilibrium of the mental, soul, and physical bodies, and pursuing levitation exercises exclusively at the expense of this holistic approach would be a severe obstacle to the hermetic development of the practitioner – as well as being impossible at this level of practice.
