The inhibitory characters in the individual's nature.

Logmen, defined as the “inverted calculation of age”, is not a precisely translatable term. Log means “contrary”; men in an ancient and secret language would mean “inside, hidden side of a person”. There are two or three ways of calculating the Logmen, but only one is given here. The Logmen is considered an impediment to personal actions or, in any case, of little help. It is calculated for the characteristics of Strength, Life, Body, Soul, and Fortune only if these are negative compared to the elements of the factors themselves in the year used for the forecasts to understand if negativities persist.
For the calculation of the Logmen for the Strength, we employ the following rules:
Male birth:
- Find the animal and element corresponding to your year of birth.
- Calculate the Child element of the birth element.
- Count as many years clockwise as there are years of the subject, starting with the Tiger and with the Child element obtained from the previous step (remember to add a year to the age).
- The animal-element combination obtained is the Logmen of the Strength for the year in question.
Female birth:
- Find the animal and element corresponding to your year of birth.
- Calculate the Mother element of the birth element.
- Count as many years counterclockwise as there are years of the subject, starting with the Monkey and with the Mother element obtained from the previous step (remember to add a year to the age).
- The animal-element combination obtained is the Logmen of the Strength for the year in question.
The following examples refer to a male and female birth, respectively. For calculating the Logmen, we can use the method with the left hand and the tables of the 60-year cycle. Using the tables, we move to the combination Tiger-element of birth (for e male birth) or Monkey-element of birth (for a female birth), counting clockwise or counterclockwise, respectively, for the number of years of age plus one. If you use the left-hand method, be careful whether the element appears for the first or second time, as a year can be the first or second with the same element.
- 44-year-old man, born on a Horse–Wood year. The starting combination will be Tiger–Fire (child of Wood element). Counting clockwise (downwards if using tables) for 45 years, we find Dog–Metal.
- 39-year-old woman, born on a Boar-Earth year. The starting combination will be Monkey-Fire (mother of Earth element). Counting counterclockwise (upwards if using tables) for 40 years, we get Serpent–Fire.
Here are some (incomplete) interpretative notes based on the Logmen calculation and secondary calculations:
- Gate of Heaven and Earth. In a male birth, it is said that the Gate of Heaven is open when the Logmen is the Dog, and the Gate of Earth is open if it is Boar. For a woman, the Gate of Heaven is open when the Logmen is the Dragon, and the Gate of Earth is open when it is Serpent. When the Doors are open, there is a risk of suffering the impact of disturbing or destructive forces, of losing something, including life; therefore, one needs rituals or offerings to nullify the negativities.
- Pun gyŏd (destroys, eliminates suddenly and unexpectedly). Effect of the Logmen when it is Sheep or Ox (for both sexes).
- Jyedral (separation from someone or something). Effect of the Logmen when it is Monkey or Bird (for both sexes).
- Ru qod (interrupts the continuation, creates impediments in pursuing one’s ends). Effect of the Logmen when it is Rat or Horse (for both sexes).
- Jyòrba (wealth). Effect of the Logmen when Tiger or Hare (for both sexes).
- Jùtag (Rope of Heaven). It is obtained by counting five from the Logmen in the same direction used to calculate the latter. The meaning is unclear, but it may refer to what is likely to drift away.
- Denpur (Sword of the Earth). It is obtained by counting five as for the Jùtag but in the opposite direction. It represents the foundation, that which cannot be disturbed.
- Námgyán (Sceptre of Heaven. The gyán is a sort of wooden sceptre with coloured wool threads). It is obtained by counting eight from the Logmen; it has been impossible to trace its meaning.
- Sagyán (Sceptre of the Earth). It is obtained by counting eight as for the námgyán but in the opposite direction. Again, it is not possible to provide meaning.
