Opportunities

The semi-sextile aspect is created by dividing the zodiac circle by 12. As it spans 30°, it can only occur between neighbouring signs. This proximity allows for a direct energy transfer between the planets involved – from the planet in the active and masculine sign to the planet in the passive and feminine sign. So what meaning can we assign to it? If we use the image of an electric circuit, we could consider the aspect as a short circuit: the contact between a positive and a negative element in the presence of a low resistance, which in this case is given by the contiguity of the zodiac signs concerned.
According to the traditional interpretive view, when two planets in adjacent signs form a planetary relationship, it signifies a connection between opposing energies. As previously noted in the square aspect, the signs’ respective elements are believed to be enemies of each other. As a result, the planets influenced by this aspect are thought to represent the obstacles and hardships that need to be overcome to achieve complete cooperation.
If, on the other hand, sequential logic is used instead of block logic, the interpretation undergoes a significant transformation. The energies flow into one another, and we witness the preceding planet seamlessly complementing the dynamics of the subsequent one while still retaining its unique traits. In this context, if we were to describe the appearance with a single word, it would be “opportunity”.
It is possible for both logics to coexist, depending on the planetary typologies and signs involved in the aspect. The interpretation can be dominated by one logic or the other. For example, a semisextile Moon-Saturn with the Moon preceding it in the masculine sign (Libra) would see a Saturn guided by logic not inclined to compromise uncooperative to establish a sentimental and emotional balance. On the other hand, if Mercury in Gemini is semisextile to Venus in Cancer, it may be willing to compensate for difficulties in expressing affection with its communicative nature.
Although not highly regarded, it’s worth acknowledging that the aspect is the fundamental building block for all major aspects and the quincunx. A more in-depth interpretation could shed light on some minor nuances of the natal chart. It’s worth noting that this aspect is rare, considering that its orbit should not go beyond the degree of tolerance.
